From Boating Roots to Loan Expertise: Meet Doug Howell in Ft. Lauderdale

Doug Howell has been a Sales Associate in Sterling’s Ft. Lauderdale office for a little over three years now. 

A native of Stuart, FL, he attended the University of Colorado, majoring in economics, before returning to his home state and landing the job at Sterling Associates.

“The most interesting thing about this job is that every deal is different and there is always something new to learn,” Doug said. “I can say that after three years here, but my boss tells me the same thing and he’s been at it more than 25 years!”

Howell enjoys the relationships he creates with his clients as he helps them through the process of finding the best financing deal. “There is always a broad range of responsibilities when I’m helping a client through a deal,” he said. “Whether I’m working with the bank, getting the client’s financials and tax returns in order, or just answering basic questions … it just seems different every time.”

Doug comes from a boating family – although he doesn’t own a boat himself yet. His father always had a boat, as did the families of many of his friends growing up. “We’d make the trip across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas every summer,” he recalls.  “I’ve spent other summers down in the Keys, fishing and boating and always loved hanging out on boats.”

These days, when he’s not working, Doug likes to explore new restaurants and clubs in Ft. Lauderdale with his friends.
